Challenge: A unique project was awarded to Hayden Electric in 2005. Great Wolf Lodge was coming to the Poconos to construct a first-class, full-service, year-round family resort. Hayden was responsible for the electrical construction requirements needed to run the self-contained, indoor themed water park portion of the Lodge. The project involved lighting the pools with a heavy focus on underwater lighting. Power and motor control functions were also needed to operate water filters, pumps and treatment systems. In addition, another major concern for the owner was humidity levels, ambient temperature and adequate ventilation.
Solutions: Hayden’s team of professionals was responsible for the electrical construction involving six indoor water pools and an outdoor activity pool. Since motor controls is one our specialties, our team performed flawlessly when dealing with these critical issues. In terms of safety, Hayden’s efforts included heavy grounding due to the obvious hazards water and electricity create. Consequently, every metal projection had to be grounded, from handrails to the activity equipment itself. Grounding of the intricate spider web of concrete rebar was also a necessity. Plus, when dealing with a high humidity and chlorine environment, anti-corrosive materials were yet another requirement.
Results:
- A multi-million dollar development was built to capture the outdoor essence and adventure of northeastern Pennsylvania.
- The log-sided resort and water park has an outdoor activity pool, premier indoor water park; indoor wave pool; 90-foot tall indoor water feature; 11 water slides; six pools; interactive treehouse, water fort with a nearly 1,000 gallon tipping water bucket.
- Recipient of 2005 Associated Builders & Contractors, Inc., Eastern Pennsylvania Chapter, Merit Shop Award of Excellence in Construction – Electrical Commercial
